What is the most effective way of building muscle and cardiovascular endurance for teenagers?

I am on the wrestling team at my high school and i would like to see in what way i could build muscle effectively and get my cardio back up, i used to be able to run 12 miles, now since i hurt myself and am recovering, i can only do a little over 6 miles. Any one know?

    I highly recommend swimming, it helps add muscle tone and definition as well as giving a good aerobic workout.
